DragonOS, KrakenSDR, and DF Aggregator are seamlessly connected via a long-range WiFi link spanning 1km.

DragonOS is an Ubuntu Linux image that is readily available for use and comes with preinstalled SDR software packages. One of the included tools is DF Aggregator, which facilitates radio direction finding when paired with devices like the KrakenSDR.

In his most recent video, Aaron, the creator of DragonOS, conducts a test involving a long-range WiFi connection spanning one kilometer. The connection is established between a KrakenSDR and Aaron’s base station, which runs DF Aggregator. To achieve this WiFi link, Aaron utilizes an ALFA Network 802.11ah (900 MHz US) adapter. The remote KrakenSDR operates on a ‘DragonDeck,’ which is a SteamDeck gaming console installed with DragonOS.

During the video, Aaron demonstrates that when he transmits signals with his handheld radio, the remote KrakenSDR accurately determines the transmitter’s direction. Additionally, toward the end of the video, Aaron briefly experiments with automatic speech transcription using WhisperCPP.

These tests were conducted in collaboration with @VibesGoon, who shares some excellent images of his KrakenSDR setup on his Twitter feed.
